1. How accessible is the school by local transit, GO, car (km)?
Burlington Transit: The Centre is easily accessible by public transit with a bus stop within 200 meters of the front door. For Burlington Transit bus information please see their website.
GO Transit:  The Centre is within 3 km of both Burlington and Appleby GO Station. From each of the GO Stations there is a direct Burlington Transit bus to The Centre.  For more information about GO Transit please click here to be directed to their page.    

2. Is free parking available?
There is no cost for on-site parking.

3. Is The Centre a Private Career College?
As an affiliate of the Halton District School Board, The Centre is exempt from the Private Career Colleges Act. If you require an Exemption Letter confirming this, please let us know.

4. What are the qualifications of the instructors?
Our instruction teams have the certificate of qualification in their trade, 10 years plus experience, and train the trainer training.

5. How many students are in each class?
Each class has a maximum of 20 students and 1 or more instructors for a student teacher ratio ranging from 10:1 to 20:1.

6. Is it a fixed program or can the school customize a program to suit your training needs?
The curriculum is set, however our small class sizes allow for some individual customization. If you feel you would need more individualized training please contact us before your program starts.

7. What accommodations are available for special needs?
Accommodations are based on individual needs.

8. What are the marks or grades required to graduate?
To successfully complete the in-class portion of our program you need to have a 70% average in the course work.

9. Are additional or make-up exams allowed, if necessary?
Make-up exams can be completed at the discretion of the instructors.

10. If I disagree with a mark or grade, is there an appeals process?
There is no formal appeals process; however, the nature of trades programs lend themselves to more objective marking.

11. Is job placement part of the program?  All of our full-time programs offer Job Search Assistance to successful graduates.  The goal of the Job Development Team at The Centre is to help you find your first paid work experience related to your training. 12. Is there job search assistance provided?
During the program each student meets one-on-one with a professional to create a specialized resume; the staff will work with you to create a resume that highlights your skills, experience and current training to prepare you for job searching in the industry.
Our students also have access to a variety of workshops to help them prepare to job search and work in the industry

13. What type employers have hired previous graduates of this training program?
The employers range from large international organizations to smaller independent companies.

14. What is The Centre’s reputation with employers in the industry?
We work closely with employers in the community to make sure that our course material is relevant and meets industry needs. 

15. Are the Instructors of this training program evaluated? If so, how often?
Yes, once per term.

16. Is the course content of this training program evaluated? If so, how often?
Yes, every year we follow the standardized assessment system created by the Ministry of Education which covers 4 key areas: Communication, Knowledge, Thinking, and Application.

17. Does The Centre obtain input from employers?
The Centre reviews our Skilled Trades Program at least once per year, each time we conduct a review we collect feedback from employers, graduates and current students.

18. Besides the tuition, are there any additional costs?
Tuition includes all of your Personal Protective Equipment, textbooks and tools as well as safety training including First Aid, CPR and Fall Arrest and parking. There are no additional costs.

19. What are the costs for necessary certification exams (if applicable)? Are these costs included or are they extra?
The only cost for this program is the tuition. There may be costs for certification beyond the pre-apprenticeship training.

20. Must additional supplies be purchased through this school?
Additional supplies are not necessary; the tuition cost includes books, tools, and personal protective equipment.

21. Is there a resource centre or quiet place to study?
The Centre has a Resource Centre where the students have access to computers, telephones, fax machines, photocopiers and resources.

22. How long has The Centre been offering this training?
The Centre has been offering Skilled Trades Training Programs since 1997.  

23. Is it possible for a student to gain credit or exemption for one or more components of this training program if he/she has prior related knowledge or experience? If so, what is the process involved?
No, it is required that all students demonstrate knowledge of the course material in class.

24. Is a High School Diploma or a GED required for admission to this training program?
A High School Diploma is not required. Students who have not completed their HSD or GED may be eligible for some High School credits as a result of completing this program. Although you do not require a diploma to complete the training, a HDS or equivalent is required to be signed an apprentice in many of the skilled trades.

25. Will I be required to get a medical check, criminal check, or driver’s abstract before starting this training program? Or, before a field placement? Or, before gaining the associated license(s), credential(s), or certification(s)?
Not for the in-class portion of the program, however, an employer may require that the student meet some of the noted criteria for work.

26. What is the diploma/certificate earned from this program?
Upon completion of our programs students will receive a certificate of completion and a transcript which indicates their achievement in each subject along with class hours completed.

27. Describe assignments in addition to regular class work.
There are some assignments outside of regular class work that represent trade specific theory based learning in order to prepare students for upcoming classes.

28. What instructional methods are used?
The instructional methods for each class are 50% hands on learning and 50% in-class verbal instruction.
