Enhanced General Carpentry (WIST)

 

Next program start date: Anticipated Spring 2014 (Pending Funding)

The Centre for Skills Development & Training, in partnership with the Government of Ontario, RESCON (Residential Construction Council of Central Ontario), and Mohawk College, is offering 22 women the opportunity to train for a rewarding new career in the construction industry.

This program features 29 weeks of  in-class/in shop training (6 hours per day, Monday to Friday) including 5 weeks of plumbing at Mohawk College STARRT Institute as well as dedicated, professional staff to assist with job search.

In Class and In Shop Instruction

  • Construction and applied theory including: effective use of hand and power tools, framing techniques, drywall installation, trim work, floor finishes, cabinet making, Ontario Building Code, exterior finishes, blueprint reading and estimating.
  • Safety training: WHMIS, First Aid/CPR, Hilti, Fall Arrest, Construction safety training
  • Employability and Essential Skills including; numeracy, communications skills training, job searching, resumes, interview skills
