Assessment tools can help you select and retain effective leaders and a dynamic workforce.
Human resources professionals today have no easy task. Their mission? Find, hire, develop and motivate a team of leaders and workers who will keep their company competitive. When times are tough, it’s the skill and drive of your people that will make all the difference.
And just how are businesses and organizations going to discern real leaders from those who just look good on paper? Thankfully, assessment tools can help. An intimate group of HR professionals from Halton and surrounding areas gathered at The Centre on March 27 to hear more about how assessment tools can make their jobs easier. According to presenters Deb Dennison, Manager of Corporate Development Services, and Nancy Moore, Manager of Employment Services, both of The Centre for Skills Development & Training, assessment tools can help to streamline hiring processes and develop leaders.
Assessment tools help in three stages of talent management, the first being Select and Recruit. One set of tools in this stage includes MPP: Management Potential Profile™, SPP: Supervisor Potential Profile™, and QSP: Quality Service Profile™. These tools measure leadership, supervisory ability, and attitude. For each of these tools, the candidate will get a mini-report, and the hiring professional will get a comprehensive report. These tools are ideal for the second interview stage, and are also useful in succession planning.
The next stage in talent management is Retain and Develop. In this stage, assessment tools will provide insights into employees’ behaviours and preferences, aid in team development, and illustrate ideal environments in which workers can shine. Tools at this stage include DiSC®, Myers Briggs Type Indicator®, and Hermann’s Brain Dominance Instrument™.
The final stage in talent management is Transition and Outplace. While transitioning individuals out of employment is not a pleasant task, assessment tools will help the employees move on in their careers, and help the business maintain a reputation for caring for its employees. Assessment tools such as Strong Interest Inventory®, TOWES and the Self-Employment Profile will give the individual insight into where they can go next in their career. These assessments are available as part of outplacement packages available from The Centre.
The Centre specializes in effective training for a skilled workforce. Whether you’re looking to hire top leaders or develop leaders who already exist in your organization, assessment tools available at The Centre can help you discover the potential of your people.
