Burlington, ON: Business owners who attended the recent Breakfast with the Mayors, presented by the Halton Industry Education Council (HIEC), were introduced to a new local recruiting website. HireLocal.ca was designed help businesses access free employment services and connect them with qualified job candidates in their community.

“Many companies find the traditional process of writing a job description, placing an ad in the paper, and screening hundreds of resumes to be extremely onerous—especially companies who don't have internal human resources departments,” said Kathy Mills, Chief Administrative Officer at The Centre.”HireLocal.ca is set up to help the employer find the right candidate, for the right job, at the right time. I'm pleased to see companies making use of the website and successfully hiring employees.”

HireLocal.ca, one of the main sponsors of HIEC's Breakfast with the Mayors, is a free service geared to small- and medium-sized businesses in Halton and Peel regions, and was designed with their input. The website was developed by The Centre for Skills Development & Training in partnership with community stakeholders and sponsored by the Government of Ontario, and has been up and running since September.

Local employment services organizations are agencies that provide free, local recruiting services. They assist local residents with their employment and job search needs, and support the employer by pre-screening candidates to help them find the right person. These agencies can also help employers with go

vernment wage subsidies and other hiring incentives for which they may be eligible, all at no cost. HireLocal.ca provides one-stop access to these agencies.

“We could spend hours going through resumes. To have someone doing that for us is fantastic,” said Ken Corbett of Versatile Millwrights. “A couple of emails and the process is already started. And literally that's taken me 15 minutes, where previously it's taken me half a day. There's a tremendous cost savings for us.”

Business owners can access the service at www.hirelocal.ca. No login or password is required to search for candidates or post a job. A video on the website helps to introduce the website to new users.
