Canada’s New Immigration System and Settlement Sector Challenges

In the last two years, and in many cases just the last six months, almost every aspect of Canada`s Citizenship and Immigration Law has changed. Robert W. Young will provide an introduction to some of these changes including:

  • The opening and re-opening of parent/grandparent sponsorships and “super visas”
  • Changes to refugee processing
  • New rules about sponsorship of spouses, common-law partners and children
  • Current and proposed work permit procedures
  • Common problems encountered when applying for temporary visas
  • Updates on the residency rules and other requirements of the new Citizenship Act

 

Speaker’s Biography

Robert W. Young B.A (Hons.), LLB, C.S. is a partner at Eisenberg & Young LLP. Eisenberg & Young LLP is the Hamilton area’s largest law firm practicing exclusively Immigration, Citizenship and Refugee Law.

Rob is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario’s Law School and was called to the Bar in 1988. Since 1991 he has written a regular column on Immigration Law issues for the Hamilton Law Association Magazine. He has been certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as being a specialist in both general Immigration and Citizenship Law and in Refugee Protection Law since 2005. He and his partner Howard Eisenberg are two of only thirteen lawyers in Ontario to hold this dual designation from the Law Society.
