Only training offered by an approved third-party trainer, such as The Centre for Skills Development & Training is eligible for Canada-Ontario Job Grant funding. If you don’t see exactly what you are looking for, inquire about our customized training.   • Skilled Trades Training – The Centre for Skills Development & Training has over 10 years of experience providing technical skilled trades training. We partner with businesses to provide specialized technical training for employees in the areas of construction, electrical, millwright and machinist trades. We work closely with you to identify the right mix of industry-specific skills and other workplace essential skills to best suit your unique business needs. We will collaborate with your company to design a focused curriculum taught by our highly qualified instructors in our 17,000 square feet of modern trades shops.

    Electrical Training

    Clients receive hands-on training for completing electrical installations for residential and commercial settings including: electrical theory, code, installations, circuit wiring, network cabling, instrumentation and AC motor control. Instruction in the Ontario Building Code is provided and clients complete safety certifications in WHMIS, Fall Arrest, First Aid and CPR.

    22 weeks full-time $8950 $2983

    Home Renovation

    Clients receive hands-on training on how to: frame a house, roof, install skylights, floors, tape and put up drywall. Instruction in the Ontario Building Code is provided and clients complete safety certifications in WHMIS, Fall Arrest, First Aid and CPR.

    26 weeks full-time $8950 $2983

    Industrial Millwright Mechanic/Machinist

    Clients are prepared for work as an industrial skilled trades worker receiving hands-on training in: machine theory, rigging and hoisting, threads and fasteners, hand tools, blueprint reading, pneumatics and hydraulics, computer numerical control, lean manufacturing, basic electricity, tear down, repair and preventative maintenance. Instruction in the Ontario Building Code is provided and clients complete safety certifications in WHMIS, Fall Arrest, First Aid and CPR.

    22 weeks full-time $8950 $2983

    Network Cabling

    Clients are prepared to work in the construction and telecommunications industries through practical hands-on training with theory instruction in the following areas: electrical circuit theory, practical network cabling, electronics, instrumentation, blue prints and installation methods. Instruction in the Ontario Electrical Safety Code is provided and clients complete safety certifications in WHMIS, Fall Arrest, First Aid and CPR.

  • Skills Training – The right training helps you increase employee productivity, engagement, retention and ultimately your bottom line.

    Cost Share – Canada-Ontario Job Grant (COJG) can contribute up to two-thirds of the training cost to a maximum of $10,000 per individual.  Employers with more than 50 employees contribute one-third of the training cost.  Employers with less than 50 employees contribute one-third of the training cost, 50% of which is in the form of wages to the individual.

    Training Cost – Fees for titles listed below will vary based on customization needs, materials requirements, length of session and size of group.

    Workplace Communication for Newcomers

    This program supports employers in building a strong workforce by strengthening the skills of their newcomer employees. Customized training helps newcomer employees improve their English skills to support improved performance, proficiency, job specific learning, improved writing, pronunciation and confidence building.

    Training curriculum is developed to meet specific employer needs such as health and safety, report writing or preparation for promotion. Training is typically delivered at the workplace.
