Community Involvement

The Centre is proud to be a part of the municipalities it serves–Burlington, Milton, Mississauga and Oakville–as well as the larger community in southern Ontario. We give back to the community in a variety of ways.

The Centre partners with various community agencies and companies to achieve common goals related to workforce development, such as:

  • Halton Industry Education Council
  • Community Development Halton
  • Burlington Economic Development Corporation
  • Mohawk College
  • Charles Sturt University
  • Bay Area Learning Centre

The Centre is proud of the work done by Centre staff to lend support to several important community causes:

Halton Learning Foundation
As an affiliate of the Halton District School Board, The Centre is very proud to support the Halton Learning Foundation (HLF). HLF raises charitable funds to remove economic barriers to learning for students in need and support school initiatives and programs in the Halton District School Board. The Centre supports HLF through financial contributions.  For the past several years The Centre has been the Platinum Sponsor for the HLF Fundraising Golf Tournament. In 2010, The Centre also sponsored the HLF Fundraising Dinner event.

Carey House
In 2009, students from The Centre’s Home Renovation and Women in Skilled Trades pre-apprenticeship training programs volunteered their time to build a fully accessible outdoor living space (deck, gazebo, wheelchair ramp) and storage shed at Carey House. Carey House is a supportive housing project located in Burlington. It provides affordable, accessible housing with 24 hour attendant care in a group setting for 10 adults with physical disabilities.

Air Cadets
In 2010, students from The Centre’s Women in Skilled Trades program donated their time to assist the Air Cadets in re-designing and renovating their office space. The students transformed the interior office space through extensive framing, drywalling, painting, door and trim work.

Hamilton/Burlington SPCA
In 2009, students from The Centre’s Get in Gear program built dog houses to shelter animals living at the Hamilton/Burlington Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Halton Women’s Place
For the past ten years, Centre employees have organized a yearly donation drive to support the Halton Women’s Place Holiday Hamper Program. Halton Women’s Place is an organization providing shelter and crisis services for physically, emotionally, financially and sexually abused women and their dependent children. From early November to mid December each year, Centre staff collect donations of new clothing, hygiene items and household goods which are delivered to Halton Women’s Place in time for Christmas.

Canadian Cancer Society
For the past two years, The Centre has participated in the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Burlington. Relay for Life is an event focused on fundraising where volunteer team members walk or run for 12 hours overnight. It is a celebration of survival and a tribute to the lives of loved ones who have been touched by cancer. For the 2010 Relay, Centre team members raised over $7800 for the Canadian Cancer Society, receiving a Silver Award.

Another way The Centre supports the Canadian Cancer Society is through the annual Spring Daffodil campaign. In March of each year, Centre volunteers sell daffodils to their colleagues. Money raised goes to the Cancer Society.
